Hawea Bowling Club Newsletter #1 September 2024

Tena Koutou/ Greetings all. Welcome to the first Newsletter for the 2024/2025 season

Club President

Yes, we do have a President. His name is Kyle McGowan.

Recently, Kyle contacted the Board expressing, enthusiastically, his offer to serve the club in the capacity of President.

At the same time Alex Crawford offered to serve in the capacity of Vice President.

Subsequently Donald Urquhart tended his resignation say that he was pleased to hear that Kyle and Alex were prepared to provide leadership for the Club.

Officially, as per the Constitution, the Board has accepted Donald’s resignation and approved the appointment of Kyle as President and Alex as Vice President.

The Board for 2024/2025

Alex Crawford, Alexis Park, Arthur Sutherland, Barbara Mackenzie, Brian McMillan, Donald Urquhart, Ethan Flynn, Kyle McGowan and Joel Corry.

A few months ago, Barbara Mackenzie was co-opted onto the Board and recently it was agreed that she would chair our Board meetings. This offer by Barbara being an example of support for our President.

Opening Day

Sunday 22nd September 2024

4pm roll up followed by dinner. See the invite to the dinner.

Programme for the season

The Club Programme is under construction and will be published in the Club Handbook. The aim is to have this printed and ready for distribution on Opening Day. In a new initiative the programme will be available in digital format through the Website.

Membership fees

Treasurer Alexis Park (treashaweabowls@gmail.com) has been utilising Xero to manage the issuing of invoices, and this process is one of the ways that the club is able to maintain the currency of what is called the Club Register. The latter is a component of the Handbook and a requirement of BowlsNZ.

Should you wish to change your membership category or discontinue membership please contact either Alexis or the Secretary.

The tradition continues. Club nights are once again scheduled for Thursday nights.

Not available to play. What should I do?

Once in receipt of the programme for the season you must inform the appropriate person (See Handbook) re your non-availability. The Board has decided to continue with the process that was introduced last season and has been used successfully for the Studholme Hawea Gold and Blue teams.

Helpers required for a clean-up of the Grounds.

Here are the tasks that require completion before Opening Day:

·       Advertising removed from the fence

·       Reduction of the height of the fence.

·       Cleaning of the toilet facility and the steps leading down to the ‘downstairs room.’

·       Green ditch—mats lifted, cleaned and put back in place

·       General tidy up

Rather than schedule a working bee, members are encouraged to tackle these tasks when it suits them. Call Donald on 0274280023
